How do I raise the $365 (or more)?
Easy! Talk to family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and everyone in-between. Share with them our goals and then ask them if they are willing to sponsor a homeless/hungry person for a month. This means that $30 feeds someone for a month – get 12 or so donations on that level and you have your $365!
Some might want to sponsor for more – some might want to sponsor for less. All levels of sponsorship are more than welcomed.
Do this: spend just 2 hours fundraising (making phone calls, writing letters, visiting with family and friends). If you don’t raise $365 we will be very shocked.
How can sponsors make donations?
You can make a donation in 1 of 3 ways:
1) Cash – please make sure to document this properly on your pledge sheet
2) Check – checks should be made out to Homeless & Hungry and the participant’s name should be written in the memo
3) Online – head to www.homelessandhungry.org and make a donation. Please be sure to indicate which participant is being sponsored!
What do I do once I have some (or all) of my money collected?
Turn in your pledge card (or a photo copy of it) to your site leader along with your money (in an envelope with your name and host site written on it).
This should be done in advance to help the H&H finance committee! Turn in your money as soon as you have it, and try and exceed all your goals!
Please start a new sheet every time you turn your money in!
When does all the money need to be turned in?
We will always take donations, but participants should have their money turned in by Friday, October 14th (can be turned into your host site upon registration) at the latest. However it is highly suggested to have your money turned in as soon as possible!
What if I don’t raise $365?
We still want you to participate. However, we believe that if you work hard, each participant should be able to raise above and beyond the $365. Each participant has to learn to sacrifice – food, comfort, pride, & time. Making those sacrifices will help each person learn what it’s like to really be homeless & hungry. There are literally thousands of people in this community who need our help! Please be willing to work hard to raise money for them!
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. All H&H donations are tax deductible. Your participant packet should come equipped with 8 tax receipts to be delivered to every person who desires one.
When do you deliver tax receipts?
As soon as someone makes a donation, you should ask them if they would like a tax receipt. If they do, then give them one on the spot. If the person is out of town or needs one mailed, simply use the tax receipt as a post card (cheaper & easier to mail).
Do we accept items as donations?
Yes (to an extent). It is best for our donations to match up with the needs of the project &/or the outreach organizations in which we support. If you have someone willing to make a donation with an item and you are unsure if it will benefit the cause, then please contact Erik Hatch at erikhatch1@gmail.com or 235-7389.
