What responsibilities fall on the shoulders of each host site?
Each host site must provide:
Security (for the late-night hours)
Chaperones – it is suggested to have 1 adult for every 7 youth (the chaperones can be participants)
Drink keepers – beverages go quick, and it’s important to have some volunteers on site to keep drinks stocked & hot/cold (depending on the drink)
Transportation – transportation is needed for the door-to-door food drive, the all-city worship at Trollwood Saturday night, the Sunday afternoon visits to the outreach organizations, & to Fargo South for the all-city soup kitchen. Participants can provide transportation with their own cars, but it is the responsibility of the host sites to provide transportation for those who do not have vehicles or licenses.
What time do I have to be at my host-site on Saturday?
Between 12pm and 12:45pm is the time that each participant should be at their host-site.
Will Homeless & Hungry be going “green?”
Yes. It is our hope to recycle all the cardboard (large host-sites will have recycling bins – smaller host-sites will be assigned drop-off spots for their cardboard).
Additionally, extra boxes will be used to recycle all plastic bottles that are discarded throughout the event.
How do we decorate our boxes?
Feel free to use anything that is your own…and we ask that you bring your own duct tape (to hold your box together) and paint (to have your name, a bible verse, a picture, or whatever written on your temporary home).
Are we allowed to invite friends or family to the Homeless & Hungry event?
Absolutely! We want guests to come worship with us Saturday night, October 15, at Bluestem…and we want guests to come by to say ‘hi’ and give encouragement during the event. We ask, however, that these guests do not stay overnight and that they respect the rules & happenings during the weekend.
Do we go door-to-door for the food drive in our own neighborhoods?
Maybe yes, maybe no. The H&H planning committee will provide your site leaders with a number of maps for your designated areas. Please stick to just these areas as other groups will be assigned to other areas throughout the community.
Where do we bring all the donations after we collect them on Saturday/Sunday afternoon?
Each group is required to transport all your donations to the campus of Fargo North High School on Sunday afternoon.
What do I have to do for my service project on Saturday/Sunday afternoon?
This will be specific for every site. Some will volunteer at shelters, some will put together hygiene packs, some will make fleece blankets, some will volunteer at different sites, etc. Your site leader will inform you with ample time of your service project so you can prepare (if you need to provide anything).
