Participant Questions

Can I participate?
Yes – anyone can participate!  Homeless & Hungry is an event for everyone!

Where do I participate?
Each participant can choose from one of 25+ host sites in the area.  Upon registering online, you will be given the choice of all the places to participate at.

What if I have friends participating at a different place than where I’m participating?
You can either all participate at the same site or know that you’ll be seeing all the other participants Saturday night at the worship – and Sunday at the soup kitchen.

What if I can’t fast for 30 hours or sleep in a cardboard box because of medical reasons?
We still want you to participate!  Modify your own plan to fit what is best for you – but please be courteous to those who are participating in the event.

What if I have a sports conflict – a school commitment – or something that would require me to miss part of the event?
We still want you to participate!  Make arrangements with your site leader and fulfill the time commitments to the best of your ability.

Do I have to get my own box?
No.  The Homeless & Hungry planning committee will have a box for each participant delivered to your host-site.  Your host site will provide you with duct tape & paint to sturdy & decorate your box!

Do we go without both food and drinks during our 30 hour fast?
No.  Our fast is meant to be 30 hours without food, but for safety reasons participants are encouraged to drink an abundance of liquids (which will be provided by the H&H planning committee at your host sites).

Can we have a campfire during the event?
Yes, if your host site allows it.  It is the responsibility of the host site to provide the fire pit(s), and the H&H planning committee will provide fire wood for you (upon request).

Can we bring a chair to sit on?
No.  The point is to be without…and to live with the bare minimum.

What is the safest way to fast?
*
People who should not fully fast for 30 straight hours are: those with medical conditions, children under the age of 12, pregnant/nursing women, or the elderly.

How do I get a Homeless & Hungry t-shirt?
Each participant is asked to pay a registration fee of $25.  That $25 gets you your t-shirt along with all of your weekend programming.  At registration at your host site you will receive your t-shirt.
